David: Words are knocked out of me today. I feel crushed. I have had the bad news I have been dreading. In a few weeks time we will be homeless. Years ago, when I was in Croatia during the Yugoslav Wars of Dissolution, I learnt the phrase: “A sadness is upon me.” I always thought that phrase was perfect. It captures the physical sense of how sadness, how depression, presses down upon you. How the weight of worry makes you feel crushed.
Jo: This news creates a sadness that is upon me.
